Detailed Instructions on how to Signup for our Tournaments

  1. Download the Software - The first thing you need to do is download the game. When you go online, it will automatically offer to update your game to the latest version. To maximize compatibility and minimize problems, we require all players to be using the most current non-Beta version. Anyone can play using the 100% Free, Classic, or Pro versions of our card games and there are no fees for playing in our tournaments.
  2. Create a login - If you don't already have a login / ladder name created on Case's Ladder, you need to create one first before you can join the tournament. The signup is free and only takes a minute. Each game has a seperate ladder/login, so if you play several games, you will need to signup for each seperately: Signup for Hearts Login, Signup for Spades Login, Signup for Euchre Login
  3. Start the game - Startup the game using the 'Play Online' icon on your desktop and enter our RecRoom lobby (the default). You must be in the lobby within 5 minutes of the starting time listed in the schedule. If you are playing a partnership variation (as Spades and Euchre usually are), find a partner to play with by chatting in the lobby. If you are going to be hosting, select 'Tournament' as your game type so others can see your game with the 'T' marker in the lobby. This will also automatically set your game variation for the tournament.
  4. Checkin for tourney - After creating a login, you must signup for the tournament itself. Use the link on the calendar above or choose 'Info on next tournament...' on the Multiplayer menu in-game to bring up the Tournament Info page. From there, click on REGISTER and provide your team name/password, then your Case's ladder name / login from step #2 and check the 'I have read the rules' box and you are done! If you don't fill out all the fields, your team will not be registered. If you are playing a partnership game, the first player will need to create your team name please incorporate at least one of your player names to avoid confusion) and a TEAM password when they signup. The second player will need to signup and Join the team that the first player created using the same TEAM password. Once BOTH players are signed up, the team is officially checked-in and you can see this under the TEAMS link on the tournament page. IMPORTANT: Checkin is closed 15 minutes after the posted tournament startup time, so you won't be able to play if you are not on-time unless a substitute is needed.
  5. Play bracketed games - *After check-in is closed*, the STANDINGS link on the tournament info page will show the official game brackets for the first round and everyone can begin to play. Anyone can host, although we suggest the player with the fastest and most stable connection (usually not a dialup modem) should host. You do NOT need to wait for any official word to start play, once you have the four players listed in your bracket, start playing!
  6. Report the loss - After the game is finished, one of the players from the losing team will need to report the loss using the REPORT LOSS link on the tournament info page. Although the loser reports, they report who the WINNER is for the match. After the loss is reported, the STANDINGS will automatically be updated and you can see who you will play next. You may need to wait for another game in the previous round to finish before you can play. The rough start times for each round are also listed on the STANDINGS. If you see who you should play next, matchup with them and start playing the next bracket. We usually play double-elimination tournaments, so you have to lose TWO games before you are eliminated from the tournament.
  7. View the results - After the tournament is finished, the STANDINGS will show a final winner. The winners should report to tournament director for instructions on receiving a prize, if any. Once the T.D. processes the final results, the official results and winners will be posted on our site and the ladder updated (if the T.D. chose to have the tournament also count as ladder games for ranking purposes).

Tournament Rules

Hearts Rules:It is assumed players know general rules for Hearts. Games will be played with the default Championship Hearts settings (100pts, Standard, no JOD), including games to 100 points, 13 points for the Queen, 1 point for each Heart. In the event of a moonshot, 26 points are assigned to the other 3 opponents, except in a case where that would end the game. In this case, the moonshot player gets a 26 point deduction instead. There is no JOD bonus and passing always follows, 2C owner leads the first trick, passing Left/Right/Across/Hold, no points on the first trick. Hearts cannot be led until 'broken'.

Spades Rules:It is assumed players know general rules for Spades. Games will be played with a shorter but standard Spades setting (250pts, Partners, 5 bags) unless otherwise noted on the tourney schedule, including games to 250 points (or -125 if the opponent has a positive score), contract bids resulting in 10 points per trick and each extra trick over bid counting as 1 point and a bag towards score. Contracts not made will result in the deduction of 10 points per trick bid. Accumulation of 5 bags results in a deduction of 50 points. Nils bids made are worth 100 points. Blind bids are NOT allowed at anytime. No jokers or card passing are allowed. Bids of 10 or larger that are made will be awarded an additional 100-point bonus or if either team takes all 13 tricks a 200-point slam bonus will be awarded. Spades cannot be led until 'broken'.

Euchre Rules:It is assumed players know general rules for Euchre. Games will be played with the default Championship Euchre settings (10pts, Partners).

Tabletalk:Table talk, chats, emotes, and external chat programs such as ICQ/AIM or telephone calls during play are not allowed during tournament games. Tabletalk includes emotes, 'bag um', 'cover me', 'duck', etc.. Please respect those that take tournament play seriously and keep the chat to a minimum. If you believe cheating is occuring or tabletalk is excessive, please contact TourneyLead in the lobby.

Sportsmanlike conduct:Please behave in a courteous manner. Personal attacks, offensive language and rude behaviour will result in a warning and possible expulsion by TourneyLead. If you are losing, please have the courtesy to finish the game. If you don't like your partner, finish the tourney and find a better one for next week. Dropping mid-game and unsubstantiated accusations of cheating are taken seriously and players may be warned and banned from future tournaments. So, please, relax, and have fun!

Disconnects:The player with the most stable connection should host games. If a player becomes disconnected during an active game, all play should halt at that point all players should wait for the disconnected player to reconnect and rejoin the game. If the disconnected player does not return within 2 minutes, another player should be found to substitute, at the missing player's partner's discretion. If no substitute is available after 5 minutes, play may continue with a robot player (choice of bot is up to the missing player's partner) until a substitute can be found. If the host is disconnected, TourneyLead should be called to resolve how to proceed. If a player BETWEEN games leaves the lobby and they do not return within 5 minutes, a substitute should be found.

Watchers:Watchers are discouraged in tournaments, but they are allowed if ALL players at the table agree to the watching. If other players interrupt your game, the host should either add a password or uncheck the 'allow watchers' checkbox in their hosting profile to prevent other watchers from joining.

Problems:If there are any unusual problems (such as a game error), game play should halt and the TourneyLead should be summoned from the game lobby immediately. The TourneyLead has complete discretion to rule on if the hand should be redealt, replayed, or the game forfeit.
